Narikala fortress in Tbilisi

Narikala fortress in Tbilisi is one of the most famous and most beautiful historical monuments and tourist places in Tbilisi, Georgia. It attracts the largest number of tourists coming to Tbilisi, due to its long history.
Narikala fortress was built since the city’s first inception in the fourth century to be an impenetrable fortress at the top of the hill to resist the invaders and greedy people in the city, but it was later expanded by the Umayyad Arabs in the seventh century to turn into a solid Arab fortress during the days of the Islamic conquests.

And this is not the only history that Narikala fortress holds between its walls. In the twelfth century it was occupied by the Mongols, who expanded it to be a fortress for them. The castle was named Narin Kala, which dates back to its current name, where this name means the small castle.

While you are inside the ruins of the castle, you will see the architectural differences on its walls, and the reason why this castle is in ruins is the earthquake of 1887, which destroyed it almost completely, despite the Georgian government rebuilding as much as possible of it with the old architecture.

It gives its visitors wonderful panoramic views of the city of Tbilisi and its river, the Kura River, which makes the attractive view impossible to set up or resist photographing, especially at sunset.

You can also visit the Church of Carlos, which was built in the seventeenth century, which was added to the interior frescoes of the Bible and a group of historical events that passed through Georgia.

You can visit the many landmarks near Narikala Castle, such as the National Botanical Garden in Tbilisi , which includes a huge number of beautiful plants, and visit the sulfur baths located under the castle, for which the area is famous.
